TESA (Testicular Sperm Aspiration) is a minor surgical procedure performed under local anaesthesia to retrieve sperm directly from the testicular tissue. It is the primary treatment for men with azoospermia — zero sperm in the ejaculate — allowing them to father biological children through ICSI.
Who is this treatment for?
- Non-obstructive azoospermia (no sperm produced)
- Obstructive azoospermia (blockage preventing sperm release)
- Men with previous vasectomy seeking reversal-free fertility
- Retrograde ejaculation where sperm cannot be collected normally
- Failed sperm from ejaculate in prior IVF/ICSI cycles
- Men with congenital absence of the vas deferens (CBAVD)
